Photos of Small Grotesque Things (Bugs)

I’ve always been intrigued by the details found via macro photography.  When I was young, I ran around with this super cool pen-shaped microscope, exploring textures such as denim and skin.  That fascination carried through to my adult life, and into my choice of career specialization.

I’m a real wuss when it comes to killing bugs for this project (although I have zero problems squashing mosquitos and ants,) so I’ve been limited by what I can find.

Sweet Blueberry Tofu Recipe

We don’t want this blog to turn into a cooking channel, but I DO love food and I DO love getting creative in the kitchen.

After eating too many hotdogs and BBQ this 4th of July, your body may need a break from the bad stuff. If you’re like me, you suddenly have a forced day off due to the holiday.

If you have any blueberries left over from the patriotic red/white/blue dessert you made, why don’t you give this recipe a try? I’d love your suggestions on how to make it better.

Beautiful Scarves By Hiroshi Sugimoto

I used to work at a gallery that had a couple of Hiroshi Sugimoto’s images from the Seascapes and Theater series. I fell in love with his work at first sight.

How To Enjoy Tofu

I’ve been attempting to perfect tofu preparation for about 10 years now.  A plate of bland, lifeless tofu will turn anyone into a tofu-hater.  But, when you learn of tofu’s high protein/low fat/low calorie/zero cholesterol/low sodium/inexpensive qualities, it’s hard to ignore.  If you’re lucky, you’ve enjoyed at least one plate of amazing, flavorful tofu.  It CAN be done.

I’m still working on figuring out the secret to cooking the perfect tofu dish, but I’m ready to share what I’ve learned thus far.  I encourage you to download this PDF and try it for yourself.  I would love to hear any constructive criticism/suggestions you may have!

Here’s an extremely well-written letter to everyone that chooses to not pay for music (or use Spotify.) So well done.
Author= David Lowery (Cracker, Camper Van Beethoven.)

Dr. David C Lowery's avatarThe Trichordist

Recently Emily White, an intern at NPR All Songs Considered and GM of what appears to be her college radio station, wrote a post on the NPR blog in which she acknowledged that while she had 11,000 songs in her music library, she’s only paid for 15 CDs in her life. Our intention is not to embarrass or shame her. We believe young people like Emily White who are fully engaged in the music scene are the artist’s biggest allies. We also believe–for reasons we’ll get into–that she has been been badly misinformed by the Free Culture movement. We only ask the opportunity to present a countervailing viewpoint.

Emily:

My intention here is not to shame you or embarrass you. I believe you are already on the side of musicians and artists and you are just grappling with how to do the right thing. I applaud your courage in admitting…

Microscopic Images From “Digested” 35mm Film

Check out these microscopic images made from 35mm film “digested” through the artist. It’s a fun and intriguing project from artists Josh Lake and Luke Evans.

Gross and cool at the same time:

Lifesaver Award = Lifesaver Cookies

When JCPenney gives you a “Lifesaver Award,” you make Lifesaver Cookies!  My rep, Laura Gonzales (Happy Artists) enjoyed the challenge of figuring out what the heck to do with a mountain of Lifesaver candies.  She went for a stained-glass look that is fun visually AND for your taste buds.

If any of my other clients would like to give me a “Twix Award” or “Snickers Award,” I can guarantee greatness in return.

Give Credit Where Credit Is Due

I think we’ve all finally come to the conclusion that you can’t get mad at someone for sharing something you’ve posted online.  We’re ALL curators to some extent in one way, or another.  It is nice, however, to get the nod when you’ve created something unique.  We photographers have always demanded photo credit (unless you’re paying well,) and it’s about time that all other creatives follow suit.  It’s only fair.

This is a new online system for doing just that.  I’m not too excited about the name- it just doesn’t roll off the tongue, but it’s mission is intriguing.
